May 4th marks the 35th anniversary of the shootings at Kent State University. That tragic event only underscores how little things really change. The Vietnam war, the subject of those Kent State demonstrations, ended 30 years ago, April 30th.

As Alt reported last issue, the military assets are in place for a joint American/Israeli attack on Tehran. This attack, the Bush administration and its neocon string pullers believe, will trigger a coup by freedom-loving moderates inside the country, thus freeing the population from the grip of the fanatical Mad Mullahs. These grateful moderates will then align themselves with Uncle Sam, embrace democracy and reserve their oil for the exclusive use of American drivers, eager for a resurgence of Sport Utility vehicles.

Now the military-industrial-religious complex has to convince the American people that this attack is justified, and they have begun to do just that. Right wing radio, television, and even the main stream media are now referring to the Iran Nuclear Crisis every chance they get. Jerome Corsi has just come out with a new book claiming that Tehran has already acquired a nuclear weapon of mass destruction and is planning on detonating its 150 kilotons in downtown Manhattan. Locally, Tom Bauerle and his main source of disinformation, Doug Hagman and his Northeast Intelligence Network, are spending considerable time and effort trying to convince their listeners that Iranian nuclear terrorists are lurking around every corner - and at the time selling corporate security systems to keep folks safe!

Already the propaganda is spewing forth with references to Neville Chamberlain at Munich and appeasing Adolph Hitler while supporting the boys at the front. Tehran is being characterized as a nuclear loose cannon in the vein of Saddam Hussein, ready to lash out with nuclear Armageddon on a helpless Israel and American liberators and its allies in the now-democratic Iraq.

Anyone who opposes this model will be condemned as a traitor and coward with no stomach to defend his country while appeasing the tyrants by chewing on French fries (as opposed to Freedom Fries).

The reason for the predicted Iranian attack on America or Israel is never discussed or revealed, other than some vague reference to the fact that they hate us and our way of life, or something like that. No one ever mentions that the Israelis are a major nuclear power and threat in their own right. The fact that Tehran is allegedly pursuing its nuclear program to counter the Israelis and responding to an American occupation army just across its border is not seen as a reason to arm.

And the ultimate truth that any nuclear attack by Iranians on US interests would result in their own destruction as a deterrent is dismissed as irrelevant or old fashioned thinking.

A.I.P.A.C

It would seem that out staunchest mid-east ally, Israel, has been spying on its long time friend and patron, the United States. Since the birth of the State of Israel, American taxpayers have contributed nearly one trillion dollars to its security coffers. Tel Aviv has resonded to this generosity by stealing American secrets. On Wednesday, May 5th, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Lawrence Franklin, a policy analyst who worked in the office of the Undersecretary of State, Douglas Feith. Franklin was a long- time analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency who specialized in Iran. Early in the Bush administration Franklin moved to a desk in the Pentagon and moved into the aforementioned Douglas Feiths shop.

The Justice Department accuses Franklin with illegally disclosing classified information relating to potential attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq. Larry Franklin allegedly gave this information to two former members of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (A.I.P.A.C). Sources in law enforcement claim the two former members are Steve Rosen, A.I.P.A.Cs former director of foreign policy issues; and Keith Weissman, a former senior middle- east analyst for AIPAC.

A search of Franklins home in West Virginia revealed approximately 83 separate classified U.S. government documents spanning over three decades. Franklin never had authorization to keep those documents in his home.

In itself, the fact that one government spies upon another one is not shocking. What is disturbing is that the administration seems to give Tel Aviv less than a wrist slap. Larry Franklin is little more than mid-level bureaucrat moved to a top slot in the company for the purpose of serving the interests of the neocons. The spying wont stop, and it wont be taken seriously by anyone but the most zealous counter spy. Tel Aviv, Ariel Sharon, and his Mossad know the Bush administration will do everything it can to protect Israel, including selling out itself.

Oklahoma City

Terry Nichols, who is serving multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole for his role in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building if Oklahoma City ten years ago, has fingered a third man in the conspiracy.

No one in the alternative press community is stunned by this information. It only confirms what we have long known: the OKC bombings were too complicated for two lightweights like McVeigh and Nichols. They were the fall guys. And the fall, the definitely took. This also confirms something else we know; the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) feeds the publics short attention span and total lack of concentration by tossing it a very small suspect or two, and then burying everything else.

Once they convinced the public that it had its man (or two, in this case) the FBI can easily manipulate the evidence its own way. As far as the government (FBI and the Justice Department) is concerned, the public cant handle the truth. And the FBI as an institution isnt going to give it to us. As time passes and there is an even greater disconnect from the event, more and more details may be leaked or discovered by an individual investigator. As the disconnect gets wider, fewer and fewer people care. Spying on U.S. is A-Okay @ AIPAC

McVeigh Co-Conspirator Named, But Not Arrested

By Grady Hawkins

(Its been busy here at the national affairs desk; here are some of the breaking stories. Say what you like about the Bush administration, but they are always a source of great copy!

Thursday was cursed with another press conference called by George Bush. No new clichs were heard, no information relayed. The only fact reinforced was just how painful it is to watch the President of the United States try to communicate with journalists who are afraid of their own shadow and with the people of this country who tune in to watch.
