The Independence Party in New York State has quietly become the third line on the ballot and for that politicians of both major parties have eagerly sought its endorsements. However, critics of the Independence Party locally have accused the Party of setting up a pay to play system, devoid of any ideology. They view Chairman Tony Orsinis close association with Politicswny.coms Chairman Joe Illuzzi and Operations Director Tom Pecoraro as an indication that the website and magazine are in no way independent of the Independence Party, itself. Both the website and magazine give flattering coverage to politicians who - more often than not just happen to advertise in one or both publications. In fact, political advertising represents the overwhelming majority of advertisers in these publications.

As we go to press, it is unclear why the IP had not filed with the Board of Elections. A Board of Elections worker said that she would send a letter notifying the party that it was late in filing. As of this writing, the Independence Party and a related political action committee called the I.P. Chairmans Club failed to report required paper work on campaign contributors and the amount of those contributions to the Erie County Board of Elections. The required deadline for this information was July 15th but workers at the Board of Elections told Alt Press that the information was unavailable.

Another PAC run by IP Chairman, Anthony Orsini, called Friends of Tony Orsini showed receipts of 12,270 in unattributed fund raising receipts from December of last year (the most recent period available).
