The Pentagon, Washington, D.C. (alt Press)

The military announced today that the popular army comic strip character Beetle Bailey and his entire unit have been deployed to Iraq.  The outfit has been in theater for some weeks.

Bailey's unit's commanding officer is second Lt. Fuzz and it's senior NCO is sergeant Snorkel.

When this reporter pointed out the obvious fact that these soldiers are indeed fictional,  the Department of Defense Public Information Officer was quick to respond. He replied that the Pentagon does not discriminate. The honor of defending this country is open to all who are qualified, and the fact that one does not exist does not prevent an individual from serving.

The unit has been operating west of Baghdad. There have been no reports of casualties or contact with enemy.

The Alt Press will continue to follow this story as it develops.
